The Decision to create Cognacklarks.com was made by Counsel of Directors (administrators) on October 1, 2023, on the day when 50 years ago on October 1, 1973 Patriarch of Armenian cognac production Markar Sedrakovich Sedrakian passed away.

The site managed by Sed Marsed is an au fait guide for lovers and collectors of legendary Armenian vintage cognacs created by M.S. Sedrakian, such as “Jubelee”, “Otborni”, “Armenia”, “Artashat”, “Dvin”, “Yerevan”, “Prazdnichni”, “40 Years”, “ArArAt”, “50 Years”, “Nairi”, “Akhtamar”, “Vaspurakan”, as well as the first Ukrainian vintage cognacs “Odessa” and “Ukraine”.

Markar Sedrakian was the person whose creativity inspired Nobel Prize winner Boris Pasternak, big lover and connoisseur of this noble beverage to say that he made French and the whole world to admit with surprise that cognac speaks perfect Armenian.

Sedrakian lived through prosecution initiated by his envious colleagues and ill-wishers which resulted in his expulsion from the Communist Party (twice!), unfounded accusations of nationalism, fabricated prosecution for alleged production “excessive loses” and for innovative smoking schemes, aging and blending which differed from canonized French practice, months of imprisonment in the NKVD (KGB) basement, expulsion from Armenia without right of correspondence and return to the republic, but also through a triumphal return to Armenia to his well-earned position as Chief Cognac Specialist with restoration of all privileges and later receipt of all possible awards and honors.

For four decades, until his untimely passing at the age of 66 he was a permanent member of the USSR Ministry of Food Industry Central Tasting Commission, commission without approval of which no single vintage cognac could ever be produced. Sedrakian was the first and the only specialist of cognac production in the USSR who was awarded high award of “Hero of Socialist Labor”.

During the iron curtain era French leading cognac houses, such as Camus, Martell, Remi Martin, Hennessey, and Courvoisier sent a joint letter to the USSR Government inviting the Master to visit cognac’s native country. During 12-day constant tasting of cognacs from both countries, discussions on similarities and differences in cognac production technology in France and Armenia the French cognac houses not only recognized his high professionalism by presenting him awards, but Michelle Camus also invited him to move to France to work in his company promising to settle all obstacles with the France and USSR Governments.

The main goal of this site is to help collectors and lovers of Sedrakian’s rare vintage cognacs to professionally immerse into the world of this heavenly beverage, cognac, ask questions that interest them on some intricacies of cognac production technology and receive answers to many of them. Based on supporting documents they will also be able to clarify for themselves some information erroneously presented on the Internet (Wikipedia, Yandex, etc.) on historical data of industry development over the 150 years of operation, e.g. weather cognac production in Armenia began in 1887 (???), and many others. The site will include documents revealing the facts behind common legends regarding both the creator Sedrakian and each of his vintage cognacs.

Another important goal of this site is to connect collectors of Armenian cognac from various countries and help them to complement their collections with new exclusive products associated with the Master’s personality and his vintage cognacs, including new vintage cognacs created based on the blending lists from his personal archive.

When the question of the need of this site was discussed with the wide range of collectors and lovers of the Armenian cognac and people presenting Armenian cognac and providing their tasting assessments we did not expect such unanimous support of the idea. Based on numerous suggestions from the interested people about the need for an individual approach to different groups of subscribers to the site, the administration considered it appropriate to divide them into the following groups with the certain bonus privileges for their support and participation:
